이 책에서는 자신감, 자긍심, 자기 신뢰 등 다양한 이름으로 불리고 있는 ‘자아존중감’이라는 개념을 정립하고 자기 이해, 대인 관계, 목적의식, 유능감이라는 자아존중감의 요소를 이용하여 프로그램을 구성하였습니다. 막연하여 손에 잡히지 않는 추상적 개념을 구체적인 활동으로 엮어 내는 것은 쉽지 않은 작업이었으나, 문헌 연구 및 설문 조사, 다양한 상담·교육 프로그램을 바탕으로 13회기의 프로그램을 만들고 다양한 활동 및 시청각 자료를 구성하였습니다.
