이런 중요성 때문에 요즘 많은 사람들이 그린에너지에 대해 깊은 관심을 가지고 있다. 개인용 설비를 설치하기도 하고, 전문가로서 직업활동도 한다. 그러나, 그린에너지의 공학적 원리는 그 근원에 따라 매우 달라서 보통 각각 별도의 책에서 전문적인 수준으로 다뤄지고 있으며, 주로 공학계열 대학의 강의교재로 사용되고 있다.
그래서, 저자는 일반대중이 그린에너지의 기술적 원리와 그 이용방법에 대하여 쉽게 이해할 수 있도록 현재 활발히 개발 혹은 보급되고 있는 재생에너지 여섯 개 분야를 이 한 권의 책에서 다루었다. 또한, 그린에너지가 지역적, 시간적 한계를 극복하고 기존의 에너지 이용체계를 대체하려면 수소의 역할이 필수적이라고 보고 이 분야를 비교적 상세하게 정리하였다.
마지막 단원은 그린에너지가 탈탄소 미래사회를 지탱할 수 있는 주축이기 때문에 현재 범세계적으로 화두가 된 지속가능한 개발과 그 정책들에 관해서 정리했다.
이 책의 내용은 저자가 대학 강의를 위하여 교재로 정리한 학술적 내용을 토대로 하고 있으며, 세계 여러 곳에서 빠르게 개발되고 있는 기술과 활발한 보급정책을 고려하여 시사성 지식과 기술정보를 넓은 범위로 조사하여 추가했다. 따라서, 이 책의 전체 내용과 단원의 구성은 공과대학 3, 4학년 혹은 대학원의 한 학기 강의용으로도 적합하다고 본다.
책을 쓰면서 내내 마음에 걸렸던 점은 그린에너지의 종류에 따라 각기 다른 기술적 특성, 그리고 부분적으로는 좀 이해하기 어려운 과학적 원리를 한 권의 기술서적에 쉽게 정리한다는 것이 매우 어렵다는 것이었다. 그래서, 일반인이 자주 접하지 않는 전문용어나 과학적 원리는 필요한 곳에 주해를 달아서 이해를 돕고자 했으며 가능한 한 많은 도표와 그림을 인용, 삽입하였다.
끝으로, 내가 사랑하는 가족, 이 세상 모든 사람 그리고 그 뒤에 오는 사람들이 머지않은 장래에 지금보다 훨씬 더 깨끗하고 풍부한 환경에서 지구온난화로 인한 기후재앙이 없이 살 수 있기를 바란다, 또, 이 책이 많은 사람에게 에너지 전환시대의 방향과 기술에 관해 기초적 정보를 주고, 그 길에 동참하는 계기를 주는 데 작지만 좋은 도움이 되기를 바란다.

최재우

저자는기계공학,공정공학을전공했으며국내외대학과연구기관에서환경·에너지분야특히에너지의전환과공해방지를위한기술개발활동을해왔다.국내수학과독일유학후산업기술연구개발기관에서연구활동과연구조직관리에오랫동안종사했었고,대학강의활동과국제적인기술고문활동도겸해왔었다.특히,최근에는수소기술국제표준화기구에파견되어국가대표전문가로활동하면서수전해안전기술국제표준화프로젝트를책임지고있다.
