하늘과 바람과 별과 시(영문판): Heaven and Wind and Stars and Poems

Yun Dong-ju

만주 북간도에서 태어났다. 1931년, 14세에 명동 소학교를 졸업했으며 15세부터 시를 쓰기 시작했다. 1941년에는 서울의 연희전문학교 문과를 졸업하고, 일본으로 건너가 도시샤대학 영문과 학생으로 입학했다. 귀향하려던 시점에 항일운동을 했다는 혐의로 일본 경찰에 체포되어 후쿠오카 형무소에서 복역 중 건강이 악화 되어 1945년 2월에 짧은 생을 마친다.
28세의 젊은 나이에 타계하고 말았으나, 그는 인생과 조국의 아픔에 고뇌하는 시인이었다. 자신의 작품들을 모아 1941년 연희전문학교를 졸업하던 해에 《하늘과 바람과 별과 시》라는 제목으로 발간하려 하였으나 결국 뜻을 이루지 못하였다. 하숙 친구였던 정병욱이 자필로 쓴 시들을 보관하고 있다가 그의 사후에 묶어 출간하였다. 이때 그의 유작인 〈쉽게 쓰여진 시〉가 《경향신문》에 게재되기도 했다.
이 책의 제목이기도 한 〈하늘과 바람과 별과 시〉는 그의 대표작으로, 어두운 시대 속에서도 용기를 잃지 않았던 그의 인간됨과 사상을 반영하는 아름다운 시로 평가받고 있다. 현재 그의 유해는 용정에 묻혀 있으며 그를 기리는 시비(詩碑)가 연세대학교 교정에 세워져 있다.
